English 112 just wouldn't be the same without Professor B's herbal tea!

Critical Reading, Thinking, and Writing (Writing Process)

English 112 has helped bring about many new forms of writing process. In Professor Brandon's class, we covered critical reading, thinking, and writing. We read over some articles and biographies and answered questions. We also wrote back to an audience answering a question Professor had assigned us.

The processes I have learned in this class have been more than just "the writing process." The writing process can be forms of many. Being able to analyze an article is the part of the reading process. Sometimes I go to read an article or a chapter, and I don't quite understand what the author is getting at. This class helped me better my analization skills.

Professor Brandon always made sure we brianstormed and outlined before writing. He was never strict about the paper's "togetherness" or how well the paper was written which made it easier for me to write and ot stress about the paper. Outlining and brainstorming are the two most important things a writer needs to do before beginning his or her paper.

Proofreading is an important step beforfe submitting any type of work in. I have found and will continue to find mistakes in my writing, just like any professional writer. In the beginning of the semester, Professor B had us write down what needs to happen in order for us to be able to write. Quiet environment? Loud, crazy music playing in the background?

In English 112, we weren't really judged or received criticism on our writing assignments. I wish that we did do a little more group work with our writing or classwork. I always want to improve my writing because sometimes I feel like I ramble on and on about little things that it won't get the point across to my reader. In the end, the writing process is a process I will always use when writing papers.

Oral Communication

Oral communication skills are a must and learning how to use them when put in certain situations where you may not feel comfortable with the environment you’re in is even more of a must. This is where my listening skills come into play as well. I have participated in peer reviews and many interactive discussions with my classmates. In doing so, I’ve learned how to act and communicate when and if put in an awkward type of situation.

Not only have I learned communication and listening skills with my classmates, but also how to stand when talking to someone. Believe it or not, posture does make a difference when communicating with somebody. A person’s posture can give the other person a wrong impression. A person can think you’re lazy, bored, or not really listening to what they have to say.

When placed in a group discussion, one should always include everyone in their group discussion. Group discussions allow you to interact with more than one person. Listening skills are very important to have when places with other people in a group. Everyone has opinions. Everyone has different topics that interest them more. I have learned to accept people's thoughts and ways of how they feel about a particular topic in our discussion.

Oral communcation skills have helped out the ones who used to be really shy coming in to English 112. These skills have taught them to come out of their shell and speak in ways they never thought they could. Learning all these useful techniques have made it easier for me when presenting a project or paper in one of my classes.

I now feel more comfortable interacting with my peers. I will take every skill I have learned in English 112 and use out in the real world. Oral communication skills are a must when dealing with professional people and businesses. You should always enjoy yourself when speaking to an audience!

Digital Technology in ENG 112

Using technology has made a huge impact in my education. My English 112 class has taught me to take risks by incorporating more use of technology in my assignments. In using digital technology, I have learned how to communicate with others besides speaking, such as blogging and using Google documents.

Blogging is a means of communication. In English 112, I have learned how to make my very own blog. I have also learned how to view and comment on other peoples blogs. I have gained a lot of knowledge on creating blogs and what one can input into a blog. I didn't know making a blog could be so easy. Creating your own blog takes a few steps and is not time consuming at all!

Blogs can have any type of writings or thoughts one might want to share with the world. There are no rules to what a blog can or can't include. My blog consists of information on how one can be less of a procrastinator. I have also taken some information through another form of technology, a Google document, and have shared some of that information in my blog.

Google documents is just another online document. You can use Google documents to publish any type of work. Google documents can be created more than once. I have noticed that Google documents help college students become more organized. Using a Google document can help a person keep up with their assignments, which then makes it easier to stay on task.

These forms of technology are all that I have taken with me in my English 112 class. I used to not have very much knowledge in computer work/technology, but being introduced to blogs and Google documents has given me a better understanding. Hopefully we will get to learn about more forms of technology in class!

Notes on Procrastination

Research Topic: Procrastination

Research Question: What can I do to prevent my procrastination? (2 April, 11AM)

Definition- In psychology, procrastination refers to the act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of lower priority, or doing something from which one derives enjoyment, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time.

Answer Question: One thing that can prevent procrastination is completing your assigned tasks and assignments right when you receive them. Do not wait until the last minute to do it. Doing so will cause stress and make it more difficult to complete everything perfectly.

In order to prevent procrastination one must be motivated!

-Motivation is a term that refers to a process that elicits, controls, and sustains certain behaviors. Motivation is a group of phenomena which affect the nature of an individual's behaviour, the strength of the behaviour, and the persistence of the behavior.
